Religion has always been an important part of the Egyptians daily life. The ancient Egyptians worshipped and built monuments to many gods. Later, the roots of Christianity took hold in this land. Some of the earliest Christians were Egyptian, they were called Copts which means Egyptian. The Coptic church still has a strong following here.
