$8500.00

Circa 1800s

Important. Oil on art board. Signed "F Tait". The back of the board is stamped,"Prepared Students Academy Board Winsor & Newton 38 Rathbone Place London". 38 Rathbone Place is their original 1832 address. Winsor & Newtonwere given a royal warrant in 1841 and are known to stamp the backs of their art boards with thatprestigious claim. This board does not have the royal warrant stamp suggesting it predates 1841. There's some additional information handwritten on the back thatwe can't make out (pic 11 above).
This would have been paintedon site (it's a true location) so the landscape and clothing should help tobetter date it. The people in the paintingwill be identifiable figures who lived at this location, the great-great grandparents of current Maori families. It is likely that this is now a well populated area,a city? Tait family descendants should be able to identify the artist (1830s-1900) and we are looking forward to hearing from them. Actualpainting measures about 23" by 13".About 28" by 18" to outside of original frame. Shipping will be $14.95 to any U.S. address.
