"By Hek" In the wake of the News A Collection of the Writings of the late Hugh Edmund Keough, compiled and edited by Hugh S Fullerton and illustrated by C A Briggs Printer: Regan Printing House Chicago Illinois 1912 70 pages Book in heavy warps with title on front cover. Deckled edges of wraps extended past the book block, most have chipped off SEE PHOTO. Book is clean, book block holding well. Former owner name in ink on the top edge of the title page SEE PHOTO. Photo of the author faces the title page. Scarce, hard to find title.
The book is a collection of writings by Mr. Keough who wrote for a number of newspapers. Hugh Fullerton states in the introduction that Keough wrote for the people, in the language of the people, writing for the "good fellows", people he knew well. It was Fullerton's task to choose quips and columns for this memorial volume that was published after Keough's death.In the wake of the news was a Chicago Tribune sports column later authored by such people as Ring Lardner, Hugh Fullerton, Jack Lait, etc.Hugh Edmund Keough's initials, HEK ..... thus the title.
