This 4-LOT includes PHOTO-STATS and XEROX copies of RARE, UNPUBLISHED ORIGINAL ART, from 1948 or 1949, by BOB POWELL, of his unsuccessful syndication of this proposed newspaper cartoon humor strip, "SLEWFOOT JONES". The main character, SLEWFOOT JONES, does NOT appear in either strip … these were TO BE the FIRST TWO DAILY INTRO STRIPS in newspapers. Powell only did TWO STRIPS, which he numbered as 1-1 and 1-2, to denote "1st week - 1st day" and "1st week - 2nd day". The TWO larger xeroxes herein are for "1-1" (the 4-panel strip, is about 1/2-size of original art) and one-panel and one-half panel is for "1-2"(at ORIGINAL ART size). NOTE the small 1-1 on panel 1, on the bottom of the desk. The 1-1 art image size is 3.5" x 11 5/8"; 1-2 is 6.5" high. When Powell did this strip he was doing a lot of art for Street & Smith comics: The SHADOW, DOC SAVAGE, NICK CARTER, etc. The editor of theses comics was William De Grouche. NOTE the name on the editor's door in panel one: Wm De Grouch. Starting with panel one, Powell was indulging in some inside jokes and Lampoon HUMOR. Powell names the lippy-character "FEROCIOUS DEROSHIS", a play-upon LEO DUROCHER, nick-named "The LIP", a flamboyant, in-your-face baseball manager of the era. Although the strip never was syndicated, SLEWFOOT did have a limited run in several stories in late-issues of TRUE SPORT PICTURE STORIES Comics, so Powell did get some money for this character he created. ALL PERFECT.
