Ancient large lapis lazuli oval Levant scaraboid form block stamp seal bead most likely of the period ~1500-1100 BC; hand carved with three deities, one kneeling with cosmological symbolism. An example of the art of seals lasting to around 200 AD when they began to fall out of usage during the Roman Period. This seal depicts two deities walking and one in front of them kneeling with a sword. Scaraboid form seals probably originated during the Hyksos Period in Egypt and were exported to other areas when the Hyksos were expelled from Egypt around 1532 BC. They were only briefly used outside of Egypt where the Hyksos retreated to and also for a while during Egyptian occupation of the Levant (~1550-1100 BC). Such borrowed styles are sometimes referred to as having been \"Egyptianized\". Seals were used by everyone in everyday life for documents, locks, doors, identification and personal jewelry. This seal is ~ 1-3/4\" length x ~ 1-3/8\" diameter x ~ 3/4\" thickness. The hand drilled hole has been executed in two stages, from each side, meeting in center and therefore is not perfectly straight.
