FREUD MUSEUM LONDON ANCIENT TWO-FACED URN SATYR & APOLLO REPLICA CIBA GEIGY :
Vintage reproduction of an ancient two-faced urn, made as a souvenir of the Freud Museum's traveling exhibition of antiquities sponsored by Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals Corp. in the 1980's.
This urn is made of resin, highly detailed in every aspect and hand-painted. One side of the urn depicts a handsome man, probably Apollo, and the other a bearded satyr. The base is marked "FML" for Freud Museum London. The urn is mounted to a black wood plinth with a non-skid spongy material on the bottom marked "FREUD MUSEUM LONDON - PRESENTED BY CIBA GEIGY CORP" with a serial number that I can't make out.
It stands 6.25" tall on a 2.5" by 2.25" base.
Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, was also an avid collector of antiquities, many of which filled his office in London. Some of them were reproduced in miniature to be sold as souvenirs at the 1980's traveling exhibition "Fragments from a Buried Past" sponsored by Ciba-Geigy. This is one of them.
