Les Levine "Billboard Project for Outside the Whitney Museum" 1980, Oil Stick on Canvas, 54" x 144" overall; Two 54" x 72" sections. These are the true dimensions regardless of the tags on the reverse of the painting. The piece is signed and indicates provenance through the Gelco Collection, a part of General Electric in Eden Prairie, MN. This piece is also referred to as "American". A boy, at a summer picnic, wears a USA Baseball cap while enjoying the summer feast.
The image is derived from a series Les Levine did on "Country Billboards" and was installed at the Whitney Museum of Art, outside, in 1980. There is much information available online regarding this artist, his career and exhibition history.This work will come with a letter of authenticity from Opening Night Frame and Gallery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
