NAPOLEONIC COMMISSARY OF WAR DIRECTORY PERIOD ONE OF 35 SWORDS EVER MADE 1795-99, NAPOLEON'S BROTHER LUCIEN BONAPARTE WAS ONE OF THE 35. EXTRIMELY RARE IN THIS CONDITION. MEASURES 35 1/2 INCHES OVERALL WITH A 28 1/2 INCH BLADE.
A very special Commisaire des Guerres (Commissary of War) Epée-glaive. The Commisaire des Guerres was responsible for the administration,accountancy and logistics during the Directoire period (1795-1799) Only 35 man had this function and this sword. Besides them there were 360 commisaire ordinaire 1st and 2nd class accompanied by official helpers. They had a normal smallsword. This piece is exceptional and very rare. The condition is perfect, The brass hilt was silvered and the guards are made of two ram heads. The handle is made of ebony wood with a brass shield. The pommel is brass and engraved. The blade is originaly blued and the engravings are gilded. The Solingen rose is engraved on the ricasso. Comes with it's original scabbard with silvered brass and leather in very good condition
