Sayre & Bachman Eliz Town NJ High Style Federal Mahogany Tall Case Clock C 1810:
$22500.00

Here is a wonderful formal inlaid mahogany tall case clock from Elizabethtown NJ C 1810. Please review all 20 photos as well as the condition statement above. A wonderful high style tall clock from Central NJ with fabulous quarter fan inlay, inlaid waist door, base panel, line inlay. Its an excellent example that showcases the Federal Period in New Jersey craftsmanship. (Jacob ?) Bachman and Elias Sayre were partners in a clock making establishment in Elizabeth C. 1800 - 1810. Very few examples from these makers exist and to find one is an extremely rare and important find. Although the case is not signed or labeled we feel that it represents the work of the local cabinetmakers working in Elizabethtown based upon similarities to known documented examples by Ichabod Williams (the brother in law of Aaron Lane), as well as Rosett and Mulford. Since Sayre died in 1815 the 1810 date is appropriate and commensurate with the style and construction of the case. The works are eight day and exhibit the "arched" cutout sections in the plates that are typical of NJ. This movement has a rack and snail strike train and closely related to the work of Aaron Lane as opposed to the count wheel designs used by the Brokaws. The clock runs and strikes but sorry no guarantees after shipping as you may need to make some minor adjustments. The overall dimensions of the clock are 94 1/2 X 20 X 10 inches. The proportions are spectacular with a desirable narrow waist, contrasting inlay and veneer, and delicate high broken arch scroll moldings. S/H/I is free for continental US addresses and the clock will be delivered to your home or office by one of our experienced Fine Arts Movers. Please call if you have any questions, thanks for looking. Steve Petrucelli Adams Brown Company, Cranbury
