This item was made by Japanese pottery maker, Koubei-gama, founded in 1804 by Koubei Kato the First in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The present, seventh leader of the Katos is Koubei Kato Ⅲ. In the early 1980s, his father, the sixth family head Takuo Kato successfully restored the luster glaze technique of Persian Lusterware, which disappeared around 16th to 17th centuries.
In recognition of the achievement, he was designated as a Living National Treasure of Japan. Now, under the leadership of Koubei Ⅲ, Koubei-gama produces various kinds of unique pottery and ceramic items, whose manufacturing methods are firmly based on the traditional ways of Asian pottery making.
