Set of 2 Vintage New Bedford Institution for Savings Plates in both blue and gold glass. Plates have a picture of the bank building with the words New Bedford Institution for Savings Since 1825. No visibleblemishes, cracks, chips, clouding, discoloration, fading, flaking, marks, peeling,scratches, scuffs,smudges or stains. Expect minor surface abrasions and wear consistent with age, use, and storage.Item has a 3 3/8" diameter.
New Bedford Institution for Savings was established in 1825 in New Bedford Massachusetts but was not FDIC insured.In 1982 New Bedford became FDIC insured.In 1995 the bank merged into and subsequently operated as part of Fleet Bank.In 2005, Fleet Bank merged into and subsequently operated as part of Bank of America.The New Bedford Institution for Savings building is the center of New Bedford's downtown historic district. It was built by Russell Warren in 1853. It was a bank, a courthouse, an antiques store, an auto parts store and today the Visitors Center.
