The Ant-Man, Hank Pym, was introduced early in the Silver Age as one of the stories in a long-running anthology series. Contributing to the scarcity of this book, which is one of the last 10 cent Marvels, is the fact that no one knew that the Ant-Man would become a mainline Marvel superhero and one of the original Avengers. Of course, in 1962 no one could foretell there would be a super team called the Avengers! This first appearance of the Ant-Man is also the first time a character that would become a stand-alone Marvel superhero would be introduced, coming out a mere two months afterFantastic Four #1and a few months prior to the introduction of the Hulk and Spider-Man. Hank Pym would shift his identity to Giant Man with issue #49 of this series and continue to headline the book along with the Hulk until issue #69. Hank Pym in his various identities would continue to be a key member of the Avengers for decades and the character plays a major role in the more current and highly successful Ultimates series.
