Manuel Uruchurtu Ramirez was the only Mexican passenger onthe RMS Titanic. He was at that time a Federal Deputy and therefore a FirstClass diplomat.

He drowned that tragic night (April 15, 1912) because hegave his place to Elizabeth Ramell (a female passenger of British origin whofinally saved her life) in lifeboat number 11. For this act of chivalry, theGovernment of the State of Sonora (Mexico) awarded him the title of\"Knight of the Titanic\".

In 1912 Manuel Uruchurtu was in France because he went tovisit the former President of Mexico, exiled there since 1911 after the firststage of the Mexican Revolution ended.

The story goes that Uruchurtu was able to save his life 3times from this fateful trip to Europe. First, Manuel Uruchurtu had to boardanother ship, however, he exchanged the ticket with his friend GuillermoObregón. Thus, Obregón traveled on the ship MS Paris direct from France toMexico without going to New York.

Second, Uruchurtu arrived late to board the RMS Titanic asthe train that would take him to the port to board the ship was late. But theTitanic was also delayed in its departure.

And thirdly, during the sinking of the ship, Uruchurtu gavehis place in the lifeboat to Ramell who was imploring for his life.

The photographs offered here are original and have a largesize. The 3 have dedications but one of them is damaged and cannot be read.Another photo has a half fold.
