I\'m selling off parts of my extensive collections of oddities that I have amassed over the years...
This sale is foran authentic Ancient Roman Pendant of Osiris - Gold - 2nd. Century B.C. - 2nd. Century A.D.
This is a STUNNING authentic Roman pendant made of gold (not sure if it\'s solid though!).
It has been dated to between the second century B.C. and the second century A.D. thus making it between 2200 and 2000 years old!
It is approximately 25 mm tall including the hoop (roughly an inch) and some 20 mm wide (0.8 inch) and weighs 2.02 grams.
It is in the form of a crescent moon decorated with a stylized shrine and granulate firgure of the Egyptian god Osiris flanked by snakes.
It is in very good condition although the front is missing one of the three convex discs and the rear has suffered a little from having been burried for near 2 milleniums (!).
I acquired it froma private, US-based, collection, some7 years ago.
It may seem odd at first glance to find an Egyptian god on a Roman pendant but the Roman and Egyptian cultures were very losely knit. One only has to think of Julius Ceasar and Cleopatra to form a picture of how close they were.
I had it unofficiallyappraised for insurance purposes some years ago at US$ 2750and values have only gone up in the last few years.
I am willing to accept US$ 1500 which is a little over half the appraised value.
There is a little room for negociation but please don\'t insult me ;-)
