"The dragon became the Chinese national symbol in 1912. Montegrappa started its production of writing instruments precisely the same year. The limited edition of 1995 celebrates the encounter of these two cultures, the Orient and the Occident.A fountain pen born under the sign of the dragon, a fascinating symbolic figure, with a mysterious meaning: a ferocious predator for the western imagination, a well-inclined spirit present everywhere for the oriental iconography. Interpreted by the skilled hands of the artist Federico Monti, the image of the dragon lives on the body and cap of this Montegrappa limited edition, transforming a mere writing object into a work of art, inspired from myths and legends.Each 1995 Dragon undergoes several manual finishing applications including hand engraving, antiquing, and polishing by Montegrappa's artisans. The dragons are portrayed in a solid gold or sterling silver overlay and brought to life by the shimmering gaze of individually set ruby eyes. The final step is to attach a platinum plated 18k gold nib designed to be extremely flexible and provide effortless performance. Each creation is then set to rest in a luxurious black lacquer presentation box inlaid with a dragon medallion.Only 100 18k gold fountain pens, 1,912 silver fountain pens, 50 18k gold inkwells, and 500 silver inkwells were created for the world."This is a rare matching number 4-piece set of Montegrappa's most important collection, the 1995 Dragon.
