The cathedral Santa Maria delFiore, with its famous dome, is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. Theharmony and strength of its proportions mark a decisive break with medievalthought. The edifice was completed in 1436. Its architect, Filippo Brunelleschi(1377-1461) was also an engineer. He executed the design drawings for thecathedral and supervised construction down to the last detail. The creations ofthe \"Medici\" Limited Edition have a force for design with assertive, forcefullines. The guilloche cornices adorning the lighters and desk clock give themstature and nobility. On a smaller scale, ST Dupont has succeeded inrediscovering perspective, which heralded the modern era and the triumph ofreason and light over the \"Dark Ages\" ST Dupont decided to name this edition forthe Medici family, great patrons of the arts in Florence throughout the 15thcentury. The creations in the \"Medici\" Limited Edition are inspired directly -and with astonishing fidelity - by the exterior decoration of the cathedralSanta Maria del Fiore. ST Dupont reinterprets the polychrome marblework on thefacades of the edifice, where the skillfull interplay of dark green and veinedwhite lacquer creates a marquetry inlay effect. Inlays of beveled red jasperrefer to the color of the tile used for the dome, still found throughout Tuscany. The guilloche cornices (lighters and desk clock) and the personalized clipsadorning the pens and the fountain pen are ultra-sophisticated. The engravingfountain owes its extreme refinement to perfectly mastered modern digitallycontrolled technique. The radiance of the platinum finish is beyond compare.
