Imam Mosque Vaulted Entrance Twin Minarets Isfahan Iran Postcard:
$19.95

This postcard features a black-and-white view of the vaulted entrance portal and twin minarets of a grand mosque in Isfahan, Iran. Posted with a blue 10 Rials Iranian stamp featuring a profile of the Shah.Commissioned by Shah Abbas I in 1611, the Shah Mosque was built to anchor the southern end of Isfahan\'s massive Naqsh-e Jahan Square. Because the square was aligned for civic and commercial purposes, the mosque\'s entrance required a 45-degree architectural pivot to correctly orient the main sanctuary toward Mecca. The builders pioneered the widespread use of haft-rangi, or seven-color painted tiles. This technique allowed artisans to glaze multiple colors onto a single tile before firing, significantly accelerating the massive construction project compared to traditional, labor-intensive mosaic piecework.Following the 1979 revolution, the complex was renamed the Imam Mosque. The structure stands as a definitive engineering achievement of the Safavid dynasty, retaining its structural integrity and acoustic precision despite centuries of regional seismic activity. The message reads: \"Hi, We are now in Isfahan, in central Iran. The enterence to one of its many mosques is shown on this photo. We have a wonderful and informative trip. But it is nearly over for this country. We will start a slow trip back in about 2 weeks.
