1974 Hollyhock House Restoration Project Floor Plans Designs Frank Lloyd Wright:
$450.00

This is a very unique collections of items from the personal briefcase of one of the \"Key\" restoration designers of the Hollyhock House (one of Frank Lloyd Wrights masterpieces) Mr. Ira Kelly. These items were found in a briefcase at an estate sale many years ago. I have decided to let them go at this time in the hopes that they can be treasured by a fan of the Hollyhock House or of Frank Lloyd Wright.
One of the items in this collection is an invitation from Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley to a function celebrating the restoration completionof the Hollyhock House. This invitation comes complete with the original envelope it was sent with Ira Kelly\'sname & address for provenance.
On 10/10/1975 there was three page document created highlighting the new restoration of the Hollyhock House and information on public tours/visiting the House. This is included with this lot
There are several large fold-out copies of the original restoration plans used by Mr. Kelly and his team (see pictures of them unfolded). These builders floor plans cover all aspects of the restoration project with different colors on the plans for various facets of the work to be performed. One has three floor plans attached by staples and the other is a single large floor plan
There is a City of Los Angeles (2780-300) notebook with a date of 09/04/1974 that has 17-pages of hand written notes regarding various facets of the restoration project
There are approximately (88) pages of restoration information from departments like: Bureau of Public Buildings Estimates sheets, Department of Supplies, Department of Water & Power, Bureau of Public Building Manpower Estimates for the job, Office Memorandumsheets with handwritten notes from Ira Kelly\'s desk/office, Summary of Expenditures sheets 1974-1975, Project description Sheets with Alterations & Improvements, A single sheet Builders Floor plan schematic for the Hollyhock House Second Floor and Roof Plan (see Pics), Hollyhock House Design & Construction Schedule layout sheet, Hollyhock progress of work documents, and more...
Please ask any/all questions before purchase of these historically significant architecturalplansand Ira Kelly restoration notes

Aline Barnsdall originally intended the house to be part of an arts and live-theater complex on a property known as Olive Hill, but the larger project was never completed. This was Wright\'s second project inCalifornia(the first one being the George C. Stewart House, 1909, inMontecito). Atypically for Wright, he was not able to personally supervise much of the construction due to his preoccupation with designing theImperial Hotelin Japan at the time. He delegated many of the responsibilities involved in completing the house to his assistant,Rudolph Schindler, and his son,Lloyd Wright. Wright was fired from the project in 1921 due to cost overages on the project.

Disillusioned by the costs of construction and maintenance, Barnsdall donated the house to the city of Los Angeles in 1927 under the stipulation that a fifteen-year lease be given to theCalifornia Art Clubfor its headquarters. The club was there until 1942 when the house was almost demolished. The house has been used as an art gallery and as aUnited Service Organizations(USO) facility over the years. Beginning in 1974, the city sponsored a series of restorations, but the structure was damaged in the1994 Northridge earthquake. It was again restored, and was open to the public as of June 2005.

The U.S. Department of the Interior designated Hollyhock House aNational Historic Landmarkin 2007. It was the seventh site in the city of Los Angeles to receive that designation. The house was included in a list of all time \"top ten\" Los Angeles houses in aLos Angeles Timessurvey of experts in December 2008

A portion of the proceeds will benefit a wonderful non-profit called Triton Flight for Heroes
