The Battle of Flowers kicked off Fiesta in 1891 with an actual playful pelting of flowers. As that tradition was being playfully created so was the proud tradition of fiesta medals. It is said that in 1971, King Antonio XLIX Charles G. Orsinger issued what was considered the first official Fiesta medal.
Fiesta Medals TodayAlthough Fiesta medals were in existence prior to 1971, they were not available to the general public and were only worn by King Antonio, PMO members and special Fiesta Commission guests. However, today fiesta medals are created, produced, and made to celebrate and share among fiesta goers. Some fiesta medals have even sold for over $1000.
