Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone and has an aged blackpatina.
On offer here is a fine replica fragment featuring a parade of Egyptian gods in crisp, sunken relief.
At first glance it compares well with the summary style of the Chia stele also avaialble in store, but closer examination reveals a Saite period - 26th dynasty date.
Iconography and the spacing of the hieroglyphs point to this era as the likely dating.
The gods featured from left to right are :-
Khnum - a creator god, said to have created man on a potters wheel.
Horus of Hibonu (Hipponon) - riding an ibex holding on by the horns with human hands.
Horus again surmounting a papyrus column
Maat - Goddess of truth, justice, balance and harmony
Isis / Hathor - Mother goddess - magic, music, love and dance.
